VESTIBULE OF WOE

I feel the pounding

of the surf of life

within this vestibule of woe.

Alive we move transfixed

with the dream

fully engaged in the

pursuit of a destiny

beyond our grasp

but within our genes.

I move between two

states of consciousness,

both puzzled by my progress

and too far away to reach either.

Sanity is but an interpretation

of my own twisted perception.

I see this vestibule of woe -

lifelike - a brief passage from

one door to the next –

an entertaining game,

where we find meaning

in forgotten moments,

or are drawn into our

own illusion – until

we gasp for breath,

turning the dark to light,

the night to day.

Perhaps we have become too tame,

too civilized, too cultured; and in our

indoctrination, perhaps, we have lost

sight of who we are, unable to fully howl,

to roar, to dance to the ecstasy of  being. 

 

REFUSING TO BE TAMED 

Let us sit upon this universal

life and breathe freely,

for we are alive, flourishing,

enormously prepared to enjoy

each moment, celebrate every

gesture, announce to the skies

our destiny, our purpose,

unwilling to stand solemnly

or in repose; instead, joyfully

flinging our every limb,

physically testifying to the

eternal truth of our being –

aliveness so worthy and strong,

we, the participants, the bearers

of connected existence –

God’s chosen, everyone alike,

refusing to be tamed.

As I mentioned in my recent posts, I have been expanding

my meditation sessions to do some experimenting

and see if I can get a little deeper and a little more

connected. Near the end of a pleasant forty-five

minute meditation, I received a message in the silence

that simply whispered, “memorize this prayer."

 

When I get a message, I try to remember the first

few lines, and when I finish the session I reach

for my moleskin journal, record the line I remember

and transcribe what ever comes  to mind without

editing. The first section came as a directive:

 

          Memorize this prayer and say it until

          the words are written on your heart –

          inscribed within your soul and you are

          one with its rhythm and rhyme.

 

Here is the prayer/poem that I then transcribed.

I plan to take the advice, put it to memory, and

use it as an opening when I meditate.

 

ALIVE IN THIS MOMENT

In this moment now I am fully alive –

my blood flowing strongly through my veins –

I am all senses alert – full of the substance of life.

I see the wonder of the Universal Soul –

I smell the fragrance of beauty – of reverence –

I feel the satin of cosmic flesh polished smooth

with the brilliance of everlasting life.

I taste the symphony of flavors of perfect life alive,

refreshing, bursting with a taste beyond comprehension.

I envision in my mind the lavender splendor of

a universal landscape and seek the portal to all

grace, to all knowing, to all love and peace.

I am alive in this moment now - all that is – is now.

I am the sense of all creation in search of

my universal home, my Divine self,

my purposeful life.

In the Meditation Note below titled Step Into The

Stream, the concept of giving yourself over to God,

is addressed as a poetic total immersion

in the stream of life. Frankly, I get about waist-high

and swim for shore. I sometimes wonder what would 

happen if I went in all the way.

 

STEP INTO THE STREAM

Step into the stream of life – feel the crystal

water – cool – soothing - wash your feet and legs –

understand the pleasure of life – all that has occurred

to bring this stream to you – lush – full – abundant.

 

Step deeper and lose the control you have built up

to guide you – feel the water wash and splash over

and onto your arms and chest and shoulders –

breathe deeply and trust the full spirit of God.

 

Quell the fear that surfaces – breathe deeply

and trust the full spirit of God. Move deeper,

step by step, until your face and mouth are

within the stream – fear not, for God is with you –

is you. See the world through open eyes beneath

the surface – wonder at the beauty –the depth –

the crystal water.

 

Fully within the stream, now open your mouth

and suck the water into your mouth – nostrils –

and fill your lungs with the clear fluid and substance

of God. Understand you do not choke but swallow

the clear stream until you are living and breathing

the pure water.

 

Feel the energy, the thrill, and the joy of life’s stream.

Become the stream, let go, and float with its current –

move with its flow. Be alive in its water – submerged –

but living. This is the wonder of oneness with God.

Step into the stream of life and live renewed – reborn –

refreshed. Step into the stream

This morning, as I watched the birds

in my yard congregate, for what appeared

to be the final preparation for migration,

I thought how the Universe had so adroitly

designed them for their destiny, and the

faith they had already ingrained into

their consciousness, to spread their wings

full and soar.  I felt inspired to write the

poem below, to remind us that we too

have been prepared to soar robust.      

 

SOAR ROBUST

Like birds prepared for a winter flight

let us realize that we within contain all

that is, or will ever be, needed to guide

our journey onward -  the hazy path

is etched within our soul, the strength

for flight bred in the fiber of our being,

the destination framed by our clear

intention formed from constant dreaming.

 

So today we sit upon this stark limb

convinced our greater good awaits –

fit and full – confident of our intended

prognosis – with wings outstretched

we soar robust towards our waiting

distinction.

wellspring - an original and bountiful

source of something: the source of a

spring, stream, etc., the fountainhead.

 

originate – to bring into being;

to create something original;

invent; start.

 

originator -  (an entity, a being or), 

a person who creates or initiates

something.

 

WELLSPRING

Beyond the open threshold of our

anticipation – where hopes, and dreams,

and desires all collide into semantics,

where one overwhelming urge propels

us forward, to connect and be connected

with the originator, to understand

why or why not.

 

When we reach out to the wellspring 

of  our existence, to experience the

fullness: the limitlessness that is our

very  birthright, do we ever truly grasp

and comprehend that the boundaries,

the conditions, the restrictions

are comprised of our own false

perceptions.

 

If we, within our prayers and our

contemplations might profoundly

accept the flow of good is without

bounds; no parceling out, no allotment,

just an endless supply of health, wealth,

success, prosperity, happiness, love and

so much more: we might reconfigure

our approach to living, being, and existing.

However, we envision the originator,

of our existence -  a consciousness,

a force, a spirit, a holy ghost, a being

sitting on a large throne; we need

to fully comprehend that this entity

acts as a spiritual “wellspring,”

a source of our abundance and good.

 

The note above, in this regard, reminds

us that our personal interpretation

of God is, at the onset, flawed by our

limited and restricted conceptual

abilities: and instead, we need to

accept the possibility that there

is only an endless supply, with our

faith serving as the faucet.

 

Today,  let us all heed this advice,

reaching out to our wellspring through

our prayers and contemplations,

with no negative thoughts allowed,

only a sustained, ongoing positive

vestige of openly armed belief, connected,

attached, ready to reconfigure our

approach to living, being, existing.

Life itself is a cycle of becoming, then being,

then shedding what must be let go to make

the way for what may be waiting on the path ahead.

This cycle exists within each sentient entity

and, I believe, is the very fabric of nature

from the minute to the magnificent – this cyclic

force propels us forward to greater growth and

potentials.

 

The other day, I had just finished meditating,

and looking up at the grand old tree that

shares my existence near our back deck,

I thought, what might this wonderful tree,

having witnessed more years than I,

convey as its wisdom. The poem below,

This Shedding Time was the response.   

 

THIS SHEDDING TIME

Only a heavy wind might shake these

withering leaves from tired limbs,

allowing once again a winter’s restoration,

regeneration, as October skies remind

of chills to come, as thoughts of spring

remind of the prize – new life rebounding -

so alien in this shedding time, yet even so,

is not this destiny to revive, to shake

full-leaved beneath a brighter sky.

It is during these shedding times that

I feel reluctantly compelled to reflect

on the journey of my existence to date,

contemplating  my staggering, often fitful

progress. As I do, I realize that I come

to these moments of reflection, aware 

that something within my essential nature,

all human nature, perhaps all nature itself

moves us beyond our temperamental strivings,

forcefully forward toward what is often

our progressive but bruised becoming,

as the poem below so graphically contends.   

 

FORCEFULLY FORWARD  

We arrive at this moment transfixed

on this occasion when destiny, desire,

and hapless luck again intertwine

to convey to us chaotically, forcefully

forward towards potentials no more firmly

established than the prevailing winds

of past precedence, with scars inflicted,

hopes dashed, sincerities questioned –

again to bob and weave with a bloody face

and blurred vision until our weighted

arms surrender to the temptations

of uncertain repose as our hearts scream

finished, our Souls refuse to waiver,

grasping for a piercing breath, then

another, until our pounding chest subsides,

arms awaken freshly invigorated as

body motion thrusts our fists of hope

with solid aspiration.

The past few weeks have been a blur,

literally, as we took turns as the patient,

first Ann, then me – were forced to realize

that flu vaccinations do not necessarily

mean you will not get the flu, although,

most likely, not the one you are protected

to resist, but instead, some genetically

unplanned for next of kin that has gone

under the radar.  

 

Although on the positive side, this medical

hiatus has proven supportive of spiritual

pursuits, especially prayer and meditation.

Given the extra time, attempting more

intensive meditation seemed to be a viable

option.

 

When I decide to, as I call it, go deeper,

I always prepare the way with prayer,

explaining what I am about to do and what

I want to accomplish. I ask for God’s assistance,

especially when dealing with the occasional

negative thoughts, images, memories, or

whatever might be unleashed.

 

When I did, I received the note below titled

Dive Deep– an example of what over the

past ten years of my quest, I have recorded

as inspired guidance and have termed

as Notes On Enlightenment (N.O.E.’s) -

to reflect that these are responses I receive

when I ask for God’s guidance. I consider them

inspired because I write down or transcribe,

what comes to me, word for word, without

editing. As the note below explains, most

mystics have conveyed, deep diving offers

its own spiritual treasure.

 

I close this post with a poem/prayer

titled, The Hum.

 

DIVE DEEP

In the vastness exists all things, all that was,

all that is, all that will ever be: allow it to flow

unchecked, go with its currents and tides,

allow the waves of awareness to wash over

you and through you; observe without judgment,

for in this place, qualifications, expectations,

judgments are needless, wasted energy –

observe and move on when unappealing or

distressing, languish if desired, dive deeper

if desired, for this is the basis of life itself in all

its vagaries, vicissitudes, the essence of passions,

of desires, of strivings, of successes, and of course,

of failures – hopeless or needless blunders – yet

more important – the reachings, the yearnings,

the outstretched hope for more: what lies ahead,

the next step, the possibility if only, if only all

things are aligned – and when they do or are –

the expression of unbridled joy – the hallelujah

of existence. Dive deep, dive often, and be

transformed.

12 Everlasting Light 

(Music For The Magical Moment By Ryan Farish)

 

For all who do not have a clear fall season,

where leaves on trees burst out in flames of

yellows - reds - browns mixed softly,

but distinctly, I invite you to imagine gleefully

twisting beneath a dry rain of color, then

joyfully diving into a pile of autumn hues,

laughing and shrieking with buoyant delight.  

 

OUR MAGICAL MOMENT 

Let us enjoy the splendor and passion

of a fall day in vibrant color, transforming

from the warmth of summer into the

chill full rest of winter – preparing us to

harvest this final explosion of purpose,

this closing display of all that exists

within us, waiting to be revealed.

 

Let us enjoy the perfect cycle of coming,

becoming and going within us – the seasons

of our hearts and Souls growing at first

with a single step, then a few more,

until we run with life in all its purpose,

only to slow again in fitting time to our

waiting full restful stride.

 

Let us enjoy this living – this season

which is enveloping us in its lavish

bounty, within us – let us dance beneath

the falling leaves – alive with the joy

of knowing this is our magical moment –

PIECES OF GOD 

Everywhere I go

there are little pieces of God,

by gathering them together,

perhaps I will see

the whole picture,

or at least,

like a puzzle partially

completed,

a rough outline will appear,

and I, with a little patience,

can imagine the rest.

In my opinion, a key to a viable spiritual

quest requires the tenacity to find our 

unique perspective of God, which, in

the end may sync with a traditional concept,

or be something altogether distinctly

different, as indicated by the note below

titled, The Origin.

 

This Meditation Note is the answer to

my direct question, during meditation,

regarding the origin of God. Now, this

response may be impacted by an idea

I have been considering, or better put,

fixating on lately  – what if God-conscious-

ness was not the originator of all existence,

but evolved out of the very consciousness

of all existence - formed out of evolving life

itself. What if God is, basically, all existing

consciousness - plus, all awareness - plus,

everything awake - plus.  

 

THE ORIGIN 

I want to say - look beyond the horizons and

into the life, breath, and pulse of humankind.

Here, within exists the beat of a living God,

the anointed desires of all existence made

manifest by a single intention: this sliver

of purpose formed from a consciousness

combined to be something more than

the sum of its parts, a primal force realizing

random existents would not transmit a

greater destiny than mere being.

Here is the transcendence into an organized

being a conscious entity formed and fed

from the totality of each thought, sense,

feeling, aliveness, and, in turn, growing its

beingness, reaching out to foster well-

being of all nature, striving to navigate

the parts towards a more viable, pertinent,

and self-sustaining existence.

Here is the origin of everything awake.

I believe we are here now with greater

and more profound purpose than mere

existence. A motive has been molded into

our very spiritual DNA - by God, the Universe,

emergent consciousness, or possibly by just 

the combined awareness of all existence

desiring a continued existence: honestly, 

it matters not what we recognize as the source.

A motive that cries for our recognition,

a communal calling asking each of us 

individually, as well as all of us collectively,

to reframe the frightening and debilitating 

parameters of human life now on earth.

The first step is the true realization of this

destiny, waking to our mission to create,

tell, and share a new story of humankind – 

a story of possibility, transcendence,

of becoming and being more.

Let us each pound in our own way!

 

POUND

Pound, pound, pound at the door of destiny,

know this is the very moment of salvation revealed,

awake the slumbering Soul within, waiting there,

drunk from the intoxications of existence,

no time for niceties, slap it into cognizance,

at least enough for it to remember the reason,

the calling, long forgotten by other pursuits,

pushed aside, then shoved into rough spaces

behind any worthy memory; so set the challenge

up enough to appear balanced and with a mirror

in hand, fall together toward the inevitable moment

of hazy awareness; where you and you meet,

scared and secular intertwined!

Often, the words for a poem or an

Affirmative Thought come into my mind

with each line clearly, mentally vocalized - 

I simply write down the words. Although I

now, know that these words are Divinely

inspired, I often wonder about the timing

and the message.

 

I think the poem below that I have titled

Sacred Spot continues to explore the concept

of the Divine Self or Soul as it relates to our

spiritual selves. The message seems to be

that this essence of our authentic selves

is infinite – “alive now but always living."

 

SACRED SPOT

Within the soul, there is a sacred spot –

this spot is the essence of you

pure authentic perfect you

alive now but always living

alive then but living again

alive when nothing else is living

only this holy spot of you.

 

Touch this spot and know

the infinite you, the godly you.

the connected you – the all of you -

the you who has always waited

for you to be you – the full you.

yearn –verb 1. to have an earnest or strong

desire for; long. 2. to feel tenderness;

be moved or attracted.

 

Listen for the stirrings and yearnings

of a clearer being, a more precious

progression.

 

YEARNINGS

Let us not be fooled by the machinations

    of our desire, maneuvering cleverly

to obtain the sought-after resolution,

    to create a scenario of want, or need,

perhaps, to placate the yearnings

    of physical intent and grasping.

 

Let us realize this instinctual thirst

    is forever perpetuated by the ebb

and flow of ancient, even primordial

    genetic concoctions, internal elixirs

and potions set to caress or coerce

    when thought will not oblige,

or impulse accommodate.

 

Let us correct and adjust

    as appropriate, not condemning

outright, but rather dabbling tastefully

    when advantageous, when beneficial,

worthy, not driven by an urge,

    but rather inspired by it,

fully sane and politely controlled.

As the note above contends, we are beings

of yearning, often forged in deep subterranean

places, smoldering until creating an ache

that takes form and purpose, often alive

within us, working to steer our intentions,

appropriate even our worthier activities.

 

These yearnings, so delicate, so determined,

so fragile, so incredibly strong and persistent,

even possibly, potentially disastrous,

yet wondrous, so alive with potential –

our muses, even our creative underpinnings.

 

These yearnings are often like frustrated

children, wanting what they want, without

regard to rationality, formality, or in some

extreme cases, even decency. Often, our lives

are impacted by the effective management

or mismanagement of our yearnings.

 

It took me a lifetime to understand that

at the core of my being, there existed a set

of spiritual yearnings, smothering beneath

a pile of secular desires and ambitions –

success, recognition, love, creative value,

smoldering while not gaining notice until

they set my life ablaze.  

 

I am not saying we have to deny our secular

yearnings outright, taking up an ascetic life,

but we also need to  incorporate fully our

spiritual yearnings into this secular mix,

by first establishing what these spiritual

yearnings resonate, then breathing life

into them, if plausible.  Our joy, our rapture,

our spiritual renewal, even our authentic

being may hinge on answering these spiritual

yearnings.

Like a flower, we seem to hold within

us, a bloom expressing the delicate beauty 

of our essential creation. 

Active human existence - life – maybe

defined as an unfolding, the expression

of this nature, this purpose.

Yet, unlike the flower, our bloom

is often conceptual, an awakening

requiring us to seek it in the tumult

of our own conflicted minds and

an excruciatingly noisy world.

Remember, in this effort, this climb,

this ascent – both painful and magnificent –

you are not alone.  

 

THE ASCENT 

We hold the truth within our hearts,

so delicate, so fragile, yet when faced

without protection or defense, it appears

so seemingly obvious, straightforward,

even though for years we have missed

its point, its counterpoint.

 

Now, faced with pulling up a chair

to meet again this old friend, we find

ourselves reluctant, oddly shy, and

reticent, wondering if anything so

quaintly parochial might still enliven

our pursuit, our purpose, our earthly

mission.

 

Perhaps all truth - personal, spiritual,

even universal - is simple and unassuming,

its challenge is not in its concept but more

in its adherence: the application, after the

answered supplication, our real Mount

Everest to climb, yet let us be reminded,

we are not alone in this ascent – our

friend, our companion, our true light

brightens every earnest step.

Meditation is the vehicle for exploring

the various levels of consciousness;

within the one universal mind that all

sentient life shares. We, like deep-sea

divers must set our sights on reaching its

extraordinary depths, following its siren

calls, listening for its sonar-like belts

in the bend-producing waters, submerging

blind at times towards the most profound

levels, where the treasures of oneness

and universal connectivity is strewn

haphazardly for ripe detection at the

precipice of being.

 

PRECIPICE OF BEING

A simple song - its soundless

rhythms - permeates my heart,

the invitation of an outer

consciousness erupts

in flavored words, meandering

in meditation’s hollow moments,

floating thoughts pulling me

towards a precipice of being,

shedding what was once

so meaningful, but now lies

at my feet discarded, my Soul’s

flight in the ecstasy of becoming –

of what, I have no clear

interpretation, yet.

It is not what we see that hampers

our spiritual progress, it is the

antiquated lenses we peer through,

ground by our years of well-meaning

indoctrination, tinted by our concepts

and supposed truths, distorted by

even our epiphanies and peak experiences,

producing a cataract generating conglomeration,

fogging even the most obvious insights.

 

As the two poems offered here starting off

with The Livingness and Potent Breath to follow,

indicate, overcoming this perceptual malaise is

still, a challenge for me, as I work to see

fresh again, with infant eyes, my brain

erased.

 

THE LIVINGNESS

Existing within the livingness,

robust, pulsing with vitality,

energy destined for action,

the aliveness incorporates

a whole, a completeness,

with even beyond the present

in a panorama of beingness.

 

Leaves thick, lush with May

life float and shift on the

invisible wind, shade forms

shadow scenes across red

brick walls and greener dew

damp lawns, birds express,

machines holler repetitive

roars, here, now, within.

 

Perhaps I would be better

to see without words, constructs,

terms and terminology,

my brain erased, cleared, reset

and with infant's eyes peer into

the vastness of the whole me,

no distinctions, no borders,

just an all-inclusive everything.

POTENT BREATH

I ask at times

    to dream aloud,

fluent and wide,

    unclasped by concepts,

constraints, former truths,

    stale dictums – free

of all that hampers

    my being, my seeing,

this pursuit of purposeful

    living.

 

Free of all these frameworks

    constructed over difficult

times, or even in moments

    of elation or triumph-

worthy then but now

    just laden with dust,

their inspiration clouding

    the skies of now –

let me turn the page

    moving on.

 

And when I do

    I breathe again,

clear, free, and fragrant –

    with deep breaths

now unhindered -

    the fresh and potent breath

overwhelms with its strength,

    vitality, and sweetness –

I am alive again!

Morphic Resonance – the principle theoretical concept and hypothesis

of renown British biologist Rupert Sheldrake, Ph.D.: who posited

that memory is inherent in all of nature; with natural systems,

such as termite colonies, or orchid plants, or apple trees, or insulin

molecules, or humanity as a whole, inheriting a collective memory

from all previous entities of their related system; available and

usable as a guide to enhance growth and development.

 

The establishment of our personal, individual existence, before

or after this earthly life, has been a point of much speculation

and conjecture.  As with all things spiritual, we tend to layer myth,

wishful thinking, and hopeful clairvoyance to come to our belief,

whether individually, or as an adherent of a specific religious

perspective.

As a true believer in the traditional view of heaven, my wife Ann

shudders when I talk this way. Even so, I feel it is essential that

we not just except a standard answer without questioning its

veracity, at least as it relates to our spiritual perspective.

My guidance, like the featured note, has repeatedly pointed

to not only an afterlife, but a before–life, with this all too brief

time in between, a place of fostered growth, an incubator

of sorts where our joint experiences are folded back into

consciousness, to be shared with those who are still

in the process of living.

It is not my purpose to dispel or disclaim your vision of the

afterlife, only to stimulate productive speculation for those

inclined, who, like me, may find themselves closer to the after

part than the before.

 

FOSTERED GROWTH

What exists beyond life, existed before life,

the presence, the essence, established as

fact and form, inhabiting all time frames,

all sequences presented as the possibility

to be engaged, offered for evolvement,

for enhancement, for becoming, in what

we conceive of as tangible life, to be allowed

fostered growth, creative blossoming,

experiential stretching; able to ascend

or pretend, or descend as occasioned,

and with this existential opportunity

a platform for emotional connection,

the extension for singular into plural

existence, forming a web of connection;

life integrated and tied together, using

free will to push the boundaries of possibility –

to grow life – establish potential, and

when fully exercised, to take this learning,

this insight, returning to where it originated,

to lasting consciousness, to share in morphic

resonance as needed, with all life becoming.

We, us, humankind, who forever exist as the

erupting force of viable life, let us know this:

from the very moment of first consciousness

our ancestors ripped at the light of the world

surrounding them, harnessing what was reachable

to create a more sustainable foundation going 

forward.

 

As we, in our lives now, add our footsteps to this

road, venturing onward, we must contribute, not

tentatively, but with our whole hearts, knowing

the very existence of future existence depends

upon the nurturing of this eruption.  

 

Let us each wade through the morass of our

unique lives, clearing away the lethargy, 

stretching to discover what sparks we might

ignite; what fountain of life we might inspire;

what wonder - personally and collectively

as a family of beings – we might erupt.

The road is crisp

       with becoming;

            worn bare and clean

         by the footsteps

               of the multitudes,  

                     who ventured onward,

                  with clear dreams

              and overwhelming hope,

           with faith as a shield,

      determined to reach,

              beyond the constraints

Scintillate, being the spark of new life, flashing

forth the pure blessing and energy of being here,

alive, on earth, emitting the essence of you

becoming, share the exploding purpose of pure 

and worthy intention, a soul bursting with

possibilities – sparking arcs, connecting,

conjoined with life partners to create and

recreate now, fresh, patterns of presence,

existence. 

 

Scintillate, with each motion, movement, 

endeavor, shine forth the astounding wonder

of your individualized creation, share the sparks

of love, the creative genius, the uniqueness of your

offering, allowing passion and purpose to ignite 

and light the way, knowing the material and kindling

for this combustion resides within you, now, release

it now, protecting each eruption as each spark 

pierces the darkness until combined, a fountain

of light, of you, sustains us all.

accouterments – noun: personal

clothing, accessories, or equipment;

trappings.

 

This morning, out on my deck as the Fall

unfolds, I opened my journal to the poem

featured here titled This Chest. Well, here

it is years later, and I still have the chest

referred to in the poem.

 

Perhaps, you also have a chest that you drag

around with you. For me, sometimes it is

difficult to differentiate between my dreams,

my often self-centered longings, and my,

hopefully, positive, authentic mission.

 

Maybe my chest actually encloses all of these,

and more: the contents are shaped into an

ever-expanding ball of  yarn created from

life’s remnants – its hopes, its frustrations,

its struggles, its deep desires, as well as,

its dreams, its purposes – all parading

in a multitude of colors and textures,

all vying for attention.

 

As I write, I realize that the chest may

not be the problem, but an opportunity,

an accouterment of sorts, holding

the clues  needed for a more productive

and positive life. So rather than stow

the chest, I need to open it up and

rediscover what it may have to convey. 

 

OK, I can do this.

 

THIS CHEST 

In the perfect peace

    of this tranquil morning,

        I seek nourishment,

    as we sit together

        watching life unfold;

why do I persist in

    dragging this chest

        around with me,

    I have no explanation;

just a desire to be

        free of it, of the me

            who will not give up

        the longings – these

desires to be more.

Often, I allow the words to appear and find

their place as willed from beyond, or perhaps 

deep within myself, I am never quite sure,

and as with most things spiritual, the source

is not readily clarified. 

 

I do believe this force that touches our hearts 

that some of us recognize as Divine is not

held to our narrow perspective: our sliver

of time, but is the becoming itself, 

the emergence of life pursued, encouraging

all who will listen to strive further, to keep

pushing, thus being made more alive by

the very momentum created out of our living,

and like a joyful child being playfully spun -

shrieking with laughter - cajoling us to spin

faster - please, faster. 

  

THE PURSUIT OF BECOMING

Allow what is to be without fret

    or sorrow or consternation,

        being aware of the true destiny

of this existence, a life lived

    in pursuit of becoming what

        has been established before,

and will be forever after:

    predestined destiny, the arising

        of fuller, more fragrant possibilities,

do not dismay but flourish,

    for this time has been and will

        forever be a charted course

of a multitude of strivings,

        reachings, graspings, and when

            a grip is found, seeking leverage,

        summoning strength and finding

new ground, an unexpected stance,

        a wary balance, a fresh perspective,

            a new, ripe beginning from which

to reach, to strive, to seek again

            and again, and forever again –

in pursuit of becoming.

SHEDDING

We must shed the skin

    of previous being, former

        lives, encrusted memories

rooted through tears

        and turmoil, plastered

            firm on waiting healthy

                prospective living, allowing

            these carnivals, Mardi Gras

        facades to crack, chip away,

dismantled piece by ache filled

        piece - to dislodge, unhinge,

            falling to oblivion, dust to

                dust, as fresh light calls

            forth the impeded imaginings,

        new life revealed, awakened,

            we stretch, once again, to be

                    transfigured, resurfaced, evolved.

Miscreant – noun; a person who

behaves badly. Adj; (of a person)

behaving badly or in a way that

breaks a law or rule.

 

As this poem offered shares,

the act of shedding is essential to

our spiritual growth, our emotional

well-being. Often we cart around

our miscreant moments (real or

perceived) from our past life, having

fastened them to our persona, causing

us to live through them, often unaware.

 

Personally, my miscreant moments

are stationed just below the radar

of my consciousness, not so politely

waiting for my guard to relax or wane,

and then surface - one calling

forth the next, until a Felliniesque parade

is summoned for my unwilling perusal

and consternation.  

 

Since these intrusions give power

and gravitas to an often distant past –

featuring a time, place, or people

well beyond any attempt of recompense

or reconciliation, our only recourse

is to consider mustering the courage

to formulate a workable strategy

for effective shedding.

 

Of course, our approach to shedding

will be acutely personal, impacted

by our perceived notion of our fault

or guilt or complicity – again, actual

or imagined – or in some instances,

our failure to pick up on the clues,

or to be fully aware or engaged.

 

To accomplish this shedding, it might

help to inventory what needs to be left

behind, scoping out each issue at its

core, then developing a personal ritual

for exorcising this memory going forward.

 

I am already envisioning a ritual bonfire

where I burn the relics, documents, or

mementos that represent my miscreant

memories, allowing my soul to move on

to more livable, fertile ground.

WITHIN US NOW

Within us now is all the wisdom we seek –

all the compassion possible to feel –

all the wonder anyone could wish

to experience – all the magic waiting

to be performed – every miracle  

bursting forth into life.

 

Within us now is all eternity –

I spend much of my life these days, on my

knees, my head with an ear in place, pressed

against the tracks hoping to decipher the

rumbling of some train in the cosmic distance.

Often my better instincts instruct me to get up

and move on, especially when some rumble-

less time has passed. In my Soul, I know

I can only grow and evolve by listening

to this spiritually distant ode: so firmly

fixed I will remain, deciphering the cryptic

signs, not quite a “Hero’s Journey,” but a

journey nonetheless.

 

SETTING OUT IN SEARCH

Journeys - personal, emotional, spiritual –

    whether set out in search of redemption,

revitalization, or inspiration, with a heart

    in need of forgiveness or expansion or

just love; require a unique sense of

    courage, a certain emotional cunning –

to feel, to respond, yet all along avoiding

    the full impact of trepidation, while

deciphering the cryptic signs - knowing

    even in its greatest confusion there is order –

meaning – significance - purpose - synchronicity –

    allowing all who venture forth a chance

to expand, to grow, to evolve: small steps

    at first, then longer strides, until leaps of faith

are typical and standard - with large chunks

    of everlasting life offered up for the consuming.

NOTE OF TRUTH

Perhaps the solutions we seek in life are

within our grasp, there within us all along,

too exhausted after days of fierce wandering

to voice a plea for warranted attention, or

overcome by schemes and hapless strategies,

sounding mute against the ebb and flow

of internal dissension.

 

So let us again turn our gaze inside out,

refusing to be tricked by our own magic,

the ego’s slight of hand, delving into the

disorder of extinguished life for the note

of truth we so carelessly let slip from our

focus, to be crumpled underfoot waiting

for this day of atonement.

 

As we calm our shaking hands, flattening

out the message for earnest deciphering,

let us work to nobly approach this truth

with open arms and an accepting heart,

knowing time enough remains for even

this undertaking, and strength enough

will come forth to bolster even this quest,

if we have the courage to pursue it

undaunted.

I think all of us, at times, approach life

tentatively, like a shy child stepping onto

the stage for the first time, and it is exactly

this hesitant manner that slows our progress,

whittles away our confidence and leaves

us compromising rather than establishing

our well-earned success.

 

Having received the note below titled

Be Expansive, while meditating this morning,

I realize it is time for some self-reflection.  

I am not timid when it comes to pursuing the

larger than life idea/project/dream, but then

I often stuff it into a box that is much too

confining, eventually neutralizing the

idea/project/dream to ensure it is quote –

manageable, feasible, doable – and I am

often content to live within the confines

of this self-created box, even if the final

results are less than desired. Guess it is

time to free my cramped undertakings by 

letting each go free range. Thus, in my way,

testing the waters of being expansive.

 

BE EXPANSIVE

Allow the fresh ideas to flow today,

opening your consciousness to the vast

possibilities of this existence, be expansive,

shun the limitations real or perceived,

welcome the inspiration, the input,

the guidance available to enhance your

efforts, being bold in this exploration,

brainstorming with the fullness of infinite

intelligence – know you are the conduit

for the creative energy of God: so let

this force that propels all beingness incite

your imagination, let it set flame to your

wonder, embolden your claim to magnificence,

let it breathe the breath of the everlasting into

your perspective; as you grasp the throttle -

the thrust of life stretching to soar unhindered.

The note below, titled Pilot Light, is one of my

favorite Holiday messages. Perhaps, the true

meaning of enlightenment is not experiencing

“the light” but instead is being the light itself.

Hopefully, this holiday season will find our

lights shining bright individually and

collectively.

 

THE PILOT LIGHT

Within every heart resides a flame -

a beacon conveying the essence of the

life it lights – a pilot light of passionate

striving – igniting with full vigor when

the path to our destined destination

finds our seeking Souls - there and then

illuminating the world.

 

Perhaps, the very message of this festive

holiday season - centered on celebrating

the brightest light ever to exist - even now,

continuing to offer illumination in this often 

too dim world - a light reminding us of our 

true mission, to join the enlightened magic

by pursuing the very human nature needed 

to embolden our own leaping flames.

 

So let us not mistake the "whole" in the true

meaning of holy - reminding each of us

of our true intent - to share our light 

with like-minded Souls - and by doing so,

fan the flames of a brighter world.

I believe each one of us, personally but also

collectively, are poised and capable to assist

our world’s evolution to a more cohesive,

functional, and much kinder, global family –

one where compassion and mutual respect

compel us all to reach out our hands in

cooperation, as our sights are set on creation,

rather than destruction.

 

The first step, based on my guidance, is for

each of us to enter “the Thickness” of

our mutual consciousness, armed with our

own personal imaginings of what this new

Earth might be like allowing our positive,

confident and constructive vision to create

a story so energized by our love and 

the belief that we change the very fabric

of the collective mind.

 

THE THICKNESS

Enter into the thickness of consciousness,

well aware of its aspects, its dimensions,

and its dilemmas – as you are fully immersed,

you are also dissolved, integrated, merged,

leaving boundaries unclear and destabilized –

for within separation, the distinction is self-

imposed, self-devised; all folding, sifting

into one thought, one essence, one perspective.

 

So, you must let go, give in, as you take in,

becoming one with the presence, whole,

vulnerable, attached, leaving behind what

was former existence; accepting the evidence

of expanded consciousness – one being

alive, afloat in the many, the multitudes –

here thought is the consensus, yet still,

perspectives, conflicts, and desires fail

to meld.

 

Realize that this journey, by its very nature,

is real - this quest requires preparation;

a strong heart, solid confidence in the

waves will bring all sorts of friends and foes,

personal or preconceived, to toss you about;

hopefully, in the end, emboldens you  

to break through and erupt into awareness.

Return frequently to the breath, prayer,

affirmations and God’s guidance and all

will be well, doable.

THE WORLD FRESH

Often, we must force ourselves

to see our world fresh – not from

preconceived associations and conditions

learned in moments of confusion or need,

but rather new, bursting with beauty and

wild wonder like a morning glory

on a sunlit summer fence.

 

Often, we must clear our eyes and minds

to sense our life fully – wiping away

the sleep of our lethargic awareness

until the dawn rips the horizon open

and we like the morning allow the light

to anoint our senses with fresh possibilities.

 

Often, we must refuse to go on and rather

stop in our worn tracks listening,

still at last, for the quiet voice of Divine

reason to catch our numb minds

and point us in a more vital direction.

I open the vision

            of my possibility,

            clear and immense,

where surrender meets

            intention,

where the two delicately

            dance, as if in

            mid-air propelled

            each alone, yet

            together, they cruise

torrent, noun. 1. a stream of water flowing

with great rapidity and violence. 2. a rushing,

violent, or abundant stream of anything.

3. a violent, tumultuous, or overwhelming flow.

 

We, the individual particles of humanity, 

on a macro level, flow torrentially; our streams 

of being inhabiting our earthly existence, 

stretching our sensibilities to become, to go 

beyond, to create, to evolve, to overcome

our propensity, our unbridled desire for

more of what is magnificent, as well as, 

potentially hazardous - our currents,

combined and solitary, create the great

ebb and flow, the tide of consciousness.

 

In essence, it is this torrent we must learn

to navigate, harnessing the very nature

of our natural momentum.

 

TORRENT

Nothing within our existence is stationary;

unchanging or static; rather, it is like a

spring torrent – rushing uncontained,

forming, then shifting, becoming again,

zestful, unhampered, or directed by what

was or what should be: and, so it is, with

each moment of life, appearing robust

then in pieces shattered, only to be restored,

formed, captured, and forgotten as swiftly

as it is generated profoundly once more;

and in this, with this torrent, we seek

to slow the pace, find a meaning, a common

thread, holding on for dear life, wishing for

stasis, when none exists, until, with reflection

and careful meditation, our pursuit of order

and control gives way to giving in, releasing,

an allowing, and we understand our place

in the motion and being of this torrent;

one not separate; contained; not impacted by –

we, the momentum rather than the moved.

OUR FLAKE 

Like the snow falling full flakes

outside the window, artful crystal

designs, each and everyone unique,

so we the watchers offer our

individual lives, magical, robust,

altering time and space with a

breath, a touch, a sense of being.

 

And as the flakes cover over winter

fields with white waves, motionless but

accumulating, together adrift, demanding

time and attention, we too gather strength

when joined together, as couples, lovers,

partners, families, teams, throngs,

communities, and nations.

 

Like the snow our flake of life

is never solitary, but one of many,

From time to time, we must all ask ourselves

the question of whether we are diligently planting 

the seeds of positive, authentic life in our 

consciousness, preparing for the harvest of our 

abundance and prosperity.

  

I transcribed the guidance below as I struggled

with the recuperation from back surgery. 

At that time, I am sure I was not focused

on a harvest but rather on survival.  I did my

duty, recorded the note, and forgot about it in

my journal.

 

Last night, while working on the book,

I came across this note again titled Harvest

Of Life. I was transfixed by the note, and its

wonderful analogy, succinctly describing 

the consciousness work we all must do in

order to be fully authentic in this world. 

 

We are all growing and harvesting our

consciousness in every moment. If we

have planted the seeds of a positive life

in our minds, the results are ours to harvest -

prosperity, peace of mind, love, and happiness -

if not, we must return to our garden and plant

our precious seeds once more. For there is

always another moment to farm again. 

 

HARVEST OF LIFE - MEDITATION GUIDANCE

The harvest is ready to reap – full and lush

from tender toil – from loving care – strong

and healthy – ready to be the fruit of your

enjoyment – to fill your storage bins with

plenty for the long winter ahead.

 

Knowing this is the way – to plant a seed within

your creative thought - to care for it – water

and weed – watch it grow – protect it from

the ego and the opinions of others. Watch it

grow and visualize it as strong, healthy, and

prosperous – ready to be the substance of

real life and real form.

 

In the fields of your thought, you alone are

the farmer and you alone can ensure growth

by keeping thoughts of lack, not, and error

from impacting your creation – ruining your

work and destroying your harvest. You have

mastered the rules of growing form, and you

can bring your harvest to share and enjoy

with the world.

 

Understand - as you view the lush fruit of

your labor and the pure miracle of creation

unfolding,  you have been the artist of plenty,

and through your thoughts and patience,

will now feed yourself, your family, your

community, and the world.

 

Take the sickle in hand – prepare the laborers –

fill the trucks of life and enjoy the fruits of

your labor – the harvest of life.

THESE TUMBLING TIMES

When we tumble, we see the world

around us from different perspectives,

from different vantage points, upside

down and backward, askance, askew,

off-center - by doing so, often, the thoughts

in our heads jumble, creating fresh ideas

not yet considered.

 

It is exactly at these tumbling, jumbling,

times when we must be most observant,

vigilant to pluck, keep, or cull these

gestational gifts – tenderly setting

each notion aside for more thorough

consideration, examination, later.

 

And when we do, let us be sure

to handle these gems with due respect,

trying each on for proverbial size

and style, be sure to give the

gift horse a trial ride, realizing the

forces that be may see an opportunity

waiting in the wings!

Sometimes my guidance leads

me to a message I have already

received, recorded in my journal,

but have failed to notice or fully

comprehend. This is the case

with the poem offered below from

November of 2014, on the surface,

at least provides a poetic description

of the thought-based cocreation process.

 

THOUGHT INTO BEING

Tangible existence molded

        into form by firm intention,

            powered by imaginative vision,

        a process of unfolding, being,

    total restoration of a singular

idea expressed, finding form,

    through conscious cooperation,

        the creator and the creation,

            the baker and the oven,

                the smith and the cauldron,

                meet in perfect harmonic unison,

            as the glass-blowers breath travels

        the tube, finding expression,

    breath in the molten sand, thick        

glowing liquid expands,

    expiration intent on becoming,

        life-giving way to what was not

           before, yet now, in transparent

        splendor is viable, intact, artful

thought bursting into being.

SOUL ON FIRE WITH GRACE

Lord, hold me firm in your love,

      grasp me and shake me awake,

wipe the sleep of a thousand

      years from my eyes so I can

see again, be again.

 

Lord, hold me firm in your love,

      breathe the breath of creation

into my lungs and make me

      whole again – alive in the

wonder of the Divine within,

      a soul on fire with grace,

a spirit bursting, evolving,

      becoming you, infinite life,

infinite love, one with all creation.

      a womb of love – nourishing –

nurturing – protected, enveloped

      by the fluid of creation alive.

 

Lord, know I walk the crystal path –

I fall into the day

      because it is glorious

                  and find you standing

                              in the meadow, alive,

it is not then – so many

      thousands of years ago,

                  but now – you walk softly,

                              the world alive within you,

you are the world alive

      in form - perfect essence –

                  you sit down on a rock

                              lilies at your feet

and peer into my soul,

Finding an analogy or symbol to describe God, 

helps us understand God as more than a concept, 

giving life to Spirit. In my poem below, Fabric Of God,

Spirit is the strong thread holding together life.   

 

FABRIC OF GOD           

Move through this life transcended –

awake and alive beyond the consciousness

of the physical – material world.

Comprehend the depth of the spirit holding

together the moment like strong thread.

 

The fabric is textured and full of manifested

and preconceived desire. Look deeply

at the fabric of life – the beauty

and craftsmanship of all forces

to create this moment.

 

The fabric of now was sewn with a billion

manifestations –  interrelated – conjoined

by mutual desire. Live the moment –

understand the creative energy required

to bring you this order – this into being.

 

Wrap yourself in the fabric – focus

on the threads of integrated life creation.

Rejoice in the opportunity to be a participant

in this creation.

 

This is the fabric of God – constantly evolving –

changing – reforming and becoming more.

THE SEED OF GOD       

At the heart is the Crystal Soul,

the gem of life, the Divine Self,

the seed of God within you,

prepared to unfold into the Divine

essence of you, thought by thought,

prayer by prayer, it unfolds as planned,

a gleaming crystal of love created –

refracting and consuming the light of God –

translating the infinite into finite form –

powering – transmitting-receiving and

connecting with God.

 

Even if it has been forgotten,

it will glow again – released

it will grow again as you pursue

the journey back to your authentic self,

rediscover your spiritual purpose and

raise your eyes to the Divine again.

constancy -  noun - the quality of being

            enduring and unchanging.

flux  - noun – a state of continuous

                      change.

God is the energy of creation within the fluid

flux of existence: the thrust that evolves us,

that improves us that has taken us kicking

and screaming from our dingy cave dwellings

into the existence of continuously more profound

possibility; with a growing, expanding insight,

that allows us to push all-natural constraints,

and, even as our repeated attempts may fail

at times, often at an incredible toll of human

life, this spirit of God born within us, wakes

our aching Souls as it stirs our daunted desires,

inspires our muddled dreams as we stumble

forward, humbled but wiser.  

                                                                                   

                 FLUID FLUX

        There is no constancy,

    only life in fluid flux,

        an ocean of possibilities,

        appearing, being, then

            fading; moments sought

            and then discarded;

     desired briefly, only to be

        repelled - as we in lucid

            stretches intend our destiny

                with passion embraced,

            knowing clarity melds reality;

           some faint semblance of order,

                    yet even in this turmoil

                springs a synergy of faith,

              knowing this continual

           birthing will spawn

                  a wellspring of new,

                       fragrant life,

                layer upon layer

              of potential being, until

           in moments unexpected,

               it takes form and becomes

                   a resemblance of our

                 most potent yearnings,

                   stark and appealing.

        of a thousand trumpeters

            heralding the way.

        chanting the words in your head.

 

Look into your essence and find

    the Divine nature of your quest -

        the light of a generation in darkness.

 

Look into God’s eyes and see yourself

NO VOICE

My master hides from me –

    the voice I yearn to hear

        floats no longer in the

    silence – but is silent –

and with it, my connection

    to serenity, grace, life itself.

        I have been here before

    with no voice – no guidance,
