It is Sunday morning and I sleep late, which is 8 AM
for me, while Ann continues to sleep as long as possible.
I like to get up and meditate and write her note, so I
round up the three dogs and go outside. With the
dogs busy outside I go in to make my coffee, gather
the materials I like to read for inspiration before
meditating, and head back outside to our patio with
the pleasing sounds of the fountain and the birds
chirping to meditate in the crisp autumn air.
No sooner do I start to meditate than my neighbor
Nathan starts to mow his grass. Wow, I think, can't
he mow his lawn during the week when he's not
doing anything, instead of annoying me and the
whole neighborhood on Sunday morning.
I decide to go inside, but the lawn mower is just
as annoying inside. So I have an idea, I will listen to
my Creative Mind System by Dr. Jeffrey Thompson
that I have been using to promote creativity while
writing. Setting myself up in the library, I grab my
iPhone and my earphones and with the dogs fed and
happy for awhile, I begin listening and meditating.
The annoying lawn mower sound is barely audible.
I find myself quickly in deep meditation and in a few
moments a familiar whispered voice begins repeating -
"Welcome whatever occurs" - I pretend not to notice
for awhile since I would like to get on with the
meditation, but I give in after a few more repetitions
of the same line and respond with a question "do you
mean during this meditation" and the voice says -
"yes." I am not sure what this means and respond,
"what does this mean?" I get a little more clarification,
"Welcome whatever occurs in your life, whether you
consider it annoying or not." Ok, I think, well I didn't
respond to the lawn mowing very well but it is early
Sunday morning.
I usually know when the discussion is over, when the
original line is repeated. "Welcome whatever occurs,"
I think fine, as I resist my temptation to grab my
journal and record whatever come next and
continue meditating.
I am shocked to find that the Creative Mind System
is an excellent meditation accelerator, as I finding
myself in one of the deepest and most useful
meditative states I have experienced in months.
I finish and vow to listen to The Creative Mind
System often when I meditate, thankful to have
realized it additional value and usefulness.
I am not surprised that as I begin Ann's note a
familiar line comes to me, - "Today practice
welcoming whatever occurs in your life, accepting
it gracefully." I realize that this is the message for
the day and begin writing what comes to mind
without editing resulting in the note below.
Having a chance to now reflect on the notes
meaning, I realize how challenging this bit of
guidance really is, taking us beyond mere
Buddhist acceptance and into a whole new
approach to living and dealing with what we
often perceive to be the blessings and the
distresses of our lives.
I have decided to practice being welcoming,
although I know it will not be easy to learn,
and see what happens.
Wow, what a morning.
Love you all.
WELCOMING
Today
practice welcoming whatever occurs
in your
life, accepting it gracefully, making
a place
for it no matter whether you consider
it good,
bad, pleasing, or annoying –
welcome it
with open arms and accept it
without judgment or critique.
Welcome the
distraction today, the misstep,
the petty
annoyance as you would greet
the
unexpected delight – greet the obstacle,
the
confusion, the roadblock as if it is a
welcome guest
at the table of your life
without anger,
anxiety, or stress.
Practice
welcoming today as you work
to
understand the purpose, the message,
and the
meaning of each appearance –
each visitor
– each occurrence – realizing
each
appears on time and on cue to expand
your
awareness and your consciousness –
aiding you
to thrive and excel.
