VISION OF WHOLENESS

Healing begins in the mind with a vision

    of wholeness, a recollection, a remembrance

        of a state of full functioning – an inner

        reliving a time when the vibrant, robust

    capacity energized every cell, no thought of

limitation or restriction imagined.

Healing is the essence of life – its own

    recapturing of a reflection once enjoyed –

        a paradigm gently followed to mend

        and smooth and reshape, allowing each

    miraculous maneuver to render a clearer

countenance. 

So, in this, our role is to provide mental

    and spiritual support to fully remember,

        in both thought and emotion, the time

            before, when all was one and whole,

    using the energy of this conception

        to fuel the healing work underway,

bolstering its every rendering.

Ann and I have been praying to God for the

healing of a family member who has cancer,

in hopes of receiving Divine, curative assistance.

Our prayers have seemingly gone unanswered,

and we have entered into a discussion regarding

God’s will, ability, and/or power to actually heal.

 

When I suggested that maybe God does not

actually deal in the dispensing of healing

miracles, since to do so would require an

arbitrary value judgement of individual’s

worth and eligibility for special treatment,

Ann was devastated, pointing to all those

who believe they have received and have

directly benefited from healing miracles.

Why not our loved one?

 

As is often the case, this has sent me back

for further prayer and meditation to decipher

the reality of Divine healing - at least as

presented by the message I have received

on the train, in hopes of unraveling what Ann

and I, you, we, all of us might expect from

God in this regard. I have been posting some

of my insights, but I must admit this is an area

that deserves its own book.

 

About a week ago, in response to my prayer and

meditation questions, I received the inspired

note I offer below titled Healing Belief. I am

often as skeptical as my readers when presented

with such a challenging concept as this note

conveys, especially when it proposes that

spiritual healing is based on the belief, in most

part, of the person to be healed: that is, our faith

and belief that God/Universal Consciousness

has prepared us to accomplish and succeed

at personal self-healing, if we would believe

in its possibility.

 

Of course this is not a unique approach. Many

consider it as a foundational concept of the

original New Thought movement itself. Deep

within my personal consciousness, I intuitively

know that these words expressed below reflect

a valid spiritual reality, and contain an element

of truth.

 

It is hard to dismiss the healing ministry of Jesus,

who was a master practitioner of this belief-based

healing power, healing based on the faith/belief

of the healed. It would be hard to describe the

“Placebo Effect” more accurately than referring

to it as the “Belief Effect.”

 

What if this note is true? What if our own lack

of mind control and belief holds us back from

the miracle of our self-healing potential?

Certainly, to accomplish this level of personal

healing would require a strong and clear

faith-based belief, one that I will continue

to pursue and work to master someday fully.  

 

HEALING BELIEF 

All healing starts from within, understanding

the concept of wholeness, completeness;

realizing that God has no awareness of disease,

malady, physical imperfection, and has equipped

us with the tools to heal without effort, simply

by maintaining a consciousness of wellness,

perfect harmony, perfect being.

 

With our God given tools of regeneration,

recovery, unhampered rejuvenation we declare

the truth of our beingness - we do not become

less, and if our system is injured it is designed

for self-correction, to heal naturally, to return

to oneness, wholeness, wellness.

 

This order, this law of health, is fueled,

powered by our acceptance of it, as well

as our total belief in its truth and plausible

consequence; activated when knowing full well

that no physical condition of deterioration

can exist without our cooperation, without

our support of the opposite or counter belief

in illness, disease, malfunction, demise.

 

Prayers and supplication must be grounded

in the unquestioned belief that healing

is maintained and created in consciousness,

fully loaded for our personal use, powered

simply by our unwavering belief.

WITHIN

It is all within us, heaven on earth,

love and wisdom, truth – unity – God,

everything we seek, all that we desire,

aspire to, stretch to obtain – the power

to heal ourselves as well as others;

the enlightenment; the transcendence;

the very infinity we struggle to comprehend;

all history; all evolution; the cosmos;

consciousness; all levels of comprehension; 

full and utter existence.

 

Yet, alongside this is the murky,

the fearful, the anxiety, the suffering,

the hell unattended, the pain carried –

our own and that of our ancestors –

the chaos of wanton desire, our animal

natures, our monsters, our confusion,

our despair.

 

We must submerge ourselves deeply

within our conscious, subconscious,

and unconscious awareness; using

contemplation/prayer/meditation

to find our way; to find a way to order

our own “allness” for a more positive

existence, for our own being, for our

own becoming, for our own clear vision.

It is often difficult for me to ascertain which 

transpires first, a certain spiritual obsession,

or the daily message/guidance that may have 

referenced the notion in the first place; creating

a sort of spiritual “chicken or the egg” conundrum.

 

Two spiritual concepts have captured my obsessive

attention recently, both incited initially, I think,

by guidance received during my daily meditations,

and finally morphing into the note offered above

titled Within.

 

First is the very concept that we - as individuals, 

physical, spiritual beings - are all-inclusive, 

a sort of mobile hologram representing all that 

exists, or has ever existed, within the cosmos - 

including God. Not a novel concept for New

Thought adventurers, but one that has suddenly

stunned me, forcing me beyond my reason based

comprehension into a vaster conceptual context.

 

I have, as of yet, been unable to fully verbalize 

this clearly, but let me attempt to express 

my swirling thoughts as the following. 

 

We each, individually, contain the creative

life force that is necessary to not only

perceive the cosmos, and through that

perception establish its existence, but also

to use it as a multi-dimensional canvas

upon which, through which, we individually, 

as well as communally, create a work of art

so enormous, so momentous, so profound,

we, if aware, must shutter at its magnificence.

 

Although I struggle here to convey its essence,

I know this gift of structured existence demands

our attention requires our comprehension, and

beseeches our skillful use. 

 

As the note above conveys, this power within

also includes our capacity for healing, stated

briskly with the following simple declaration:

 

“the power to heal ourselves

                   as well as others”

 

Healing has been the other spiritual concept

that has occupied my thoughts recently.

And frankly, this power to heal should not

be a shock to me, given that all of New

Thought was founded on this very idea

of spiritual healing.

 

As with anyone who is a member of a large

family, serious health concerns throw life

into a state of chaos, and recently Ann and I

have also been contributing to the confusion.

Leave it to say my morning meditations are

focused on healing, my own and that of others

I love.

 

So, I would like to share some of my recent

thoughts regarding healing, with the under-

standing that this topic deserves its own chapter

in one of my books (good idea!), or maybe its

own book to ensure full coverage.

 

I will start with a controversial insight – that is,

healing, in my current thinking, is determined

by the faith of the person who is being prayed for,

not those who are praying. What is important

is that the prayed-for person is aware of all

the wonderful loving, kind people who care

enough to pray; and it is here where the larger

the number of "prayers" stokes the importance

of the experience.

 

Likewise, recent research has shown that the

patient’s belief in the healing medicine, elixir,

placebo, operation, procedure, potion, prayer,

ceremony, festival, statue, or sacred location;

as well as the patient’s belief in the physician,

healer, priest, shaman – is most accentuated

and beneficial when the curing procedure is 

performed or offered in a way that creates 

what the patient will emotionally perceive of as

a “profound healing experience.”

 

To use modern healing practices as an example,

when we walk into a major medical facility for

a healing procedure: our minds register

the significance of the facility, the doctors,

the complex healing equipment, the reputation

of both the medical staff and the hospital as a

healing entity: all of which enhance our

(the patients) healing belief, as well as our 

expectation of a curing experience - actually

fostering a positive medical outcome by ensuring 

a “profound healing experience.”

 

In other words, this healing experience –

its ambiance, its personal/spiritual significance

to the patient, even its magical nature – coupled

with the belief, the procedure will work heightens

the overall possibility of actual healing.

 

So, what I am saying here, is that the patient’s 

belief in the healing element or process, when 

administered by what is perceived as respected 

authority able to create the desired outcome – 

when coupled with the potent demonstration

of a “profound healing experience,” not only 

enhances the actual healing potential of the

patient, but may, in and of itself, trigger a

healing process within the patient.

 

This goes a long way to clarify why a vast array

of medical science-based research studies report 

actual, tangible, healing results within their placebo

control groups. Perhaps the very protocol of

the research study is triggering the internal belief 

based healing system of the test patients by 

providing this "profound healing experience." 

 

For example, a recent television advertisement

for an injection that reduces the number

of migraines for those who suffer from fifteen

or more per month offers an explanation 

in small print at the bottom of the screen,

that those who received the actual injection

had nine to ten fewer migraines per month

on average, while those who received the

research placebo injection experienced

six to seven fewer migraines monthly. This

is what is known as the Placebo Effect -

actual healing from a controlled substance 

or procedure that has no actual therapeutic 

value.

 

It is easy to extrapolate that belief-based healing

is a viable healing process that we each could

tap into, or benefit from, respected spiritual

healing experiences, of course, as an adjunct

to already respected modern medical procedures.

 

I have been most impacted and excited by the

feature focus of the December 2016 issue of

National Geographic – the cover title exclaims

The Healing Power Of Faith. This insightful

summary of healing research titled Mind Over

Matter, by Erik Vance, with amazing photographs

by Erika Larsen - fully outlines this significant

research regarding faith-based healing. I have

Thank you for allowing me to discuss my two

current obsessions. What makes this spiritual

quest so exciting is that the wonder never leaves

us without something to mull over and over

The circle has such a powerful spiritual and secular

sense to it - “the circle of life," the “circle will be

unbroken," or the Native American Indian’s focus

on “The Greater Circle,” as outlined in Michael 

Garrett’s book on the Cherokee Teachings for

Harmony and Balance, titled Walking On The Wind.

Garrett quotes the great Medicine Man, Black Elk,

who states:

 

You have noticed that everything an Indian

does is in a circle, and that is because the

Power of the World always works in circles…

 

In this featured Meditation Guidance, titled 

Circle Of Beauty, the unique spiritual nature

of the circle is touched upon, along with its 

connection to God and the soul.

 

CIRCLE OF BEAUTY 

The circle is the center of the soul and all creation,

the symbol of all life, all being, of the completion

of all existence. The circle is strong but flexible

and, although it can be increased or reduced in

size, it always maintains an outside, an inside,

and the line separating the two.

 

Your life is like a circle with the essence of you 

within the circle surrounded by the world and 

God, which gives you form. God is also with you

within the circle and gives form to the circle as

the external ring.

 

The circle is perfect, beautiful, and sacred.

The circle is power.  The circle is peace.

The circle is a spiritual symbol and provides

the healing that is needed. Consider the 

strength of a ring; the circle cannot be pulled

apart end by end; it must be forced apart with 

great strength. Every cell of the circle has a

vested interest in its existence.

 

The circle of beauty is the circle of life, alive,

flourishing, creating, and becoming as God 

assists and supports - circles of healing,  

circles of prayer, circles of forgiveness, 

circles of faith, circles of love, circles of

magnificence – form these circles:

comprehend the circle, and you will

understand God.

Let us not be transfixed

            upon this moment forlorn,

with emotions and perceptions

            immersed in our malaise;

somber; sullen, like a thick glue

             of despair, adhering us to a vision

of outrageous fortune.

 

Instead, let us shed this dismal goo,

            this gloom we alone create from

mishandled thought, depressed

            interpretation, hazy logic; turning

our sights towards fresher vistas

            and more worthy considerations.

 

Here, now, let us defend our right

            for joy, love, peace, and happiness,

knowing this is the only true objective

            of living, being alive on this earth;

ready, fully, to continue with vigor,

energy, and belief in our ascent

            towards lasting magnificence.

the limits of the whole. The power of this

creative force is love – the love of the

initiative – of boundlessness forever

reforming, multiplying the collective 

energy of all humankind – all existing life.

 

We are truly the living spirit of conscious-

ness – bursting forth in an infinite variety

of magnificence. We are one and living in

this whole – the true living spirit of God.

With each whole thought see through the illusion

of disturbance or less and into the truth of your

perfect creation, where the current condition

exists only as a misrepresentation, an anomaly

of sorts, to be overlooked or discarded, replaced

by oneness.

 

Today, realize fully, you have all that is needed

within to accomplish this transformation,

this reformation, through energized belief

and envisioning, allowing only the natural

thought of a complete and total presence to be

held, to be accurately maintained in consciousness.
