    return to the appropriate – letting

NOT BE TRANSFIXED

Let us not be transfixed

            upon this moment forlorn,

with emotions and perceptions

            immersed in our malaise;

somber; sullen, like a thick glue

             of despair, adhering us to a vision

of outrageous fortune.

 

Instead, let us shed this dismal goo,

            this gloom we alone create from

mishandled thought, depressed

            interpretation, hazy logic; turning

our sights towards fresher vistas

            and more worthy considerations.

 

Here, now, let us defend our right

            for joy, love, peace, and happiness,

knowing this is the only true objective

            of living, being alive on this earth;

ready, fully, to continue with vigor,

energy, and belief in our ascent

            towards lasting magnificence.

LOOK

Look into your heart and hear

    the pounding of the beat

        of a thousand trumpeters

            heralding the way.

 

Look into your Soul and feel

    the calling of a thousand mystics

        chanting the words in your head.

 

Look into your essence and find

    the Divine nature of your quest -

        the light of a generation in darkness.

 

Look into God’s eyes and see yourself

        alive in a world of wonder

            with lungs full of blessing and grace.

This week, I received a response to one

of my posts on joy that said I was trying 

much too hard to manifest joy in my life.

Is joy something we obtain or realize? 

This discussion brings me to a Meditation

Note titled Surrender. What if we were

just to stop seeking and surrender to the joy

already existing in our lives? To surrender

connotes that we give up internal and external

struggles and trust in God. I admit, I still have

a way to go on this and my meditation notes

often reveal my need for guidance.

 

JOYFUL SURRENDER

Surrender to the flow of God even when it appears

counter intuitive. Surrender to the solution that has

been prepared for you – the positive outcome that

awaits. Trust in God to lead you through the challenge

and find a solution. Focus on this line and repeat it

to yourself as you struggle with your own mind.

 

I am whole and ready to receive

                                  the full grace of God!

 

Lift up your eyes unto God - let the burden slip away

and know that God is with you waiting for you to open

your mind to the possibility of a fearless life. Shake

the fear and move on for it is only a sign of lack of faith.

 

With each challenge find your mantra “I am whole”

and focus on this line as you turn the situation over

to God. All good awaits – do not be afraid or afflicted.

You are protected by your own strength and the

strength of God. Clear the way for the manifestation.

I have been sorting through the poems,

affirmative thoughts, and notes I have

recorded and published on the blog.

Of course, there are many that were

written, and then hastily forgotten,

failing to catch my notice.

 

The affirmative thought below, that

I have now titled Hollow Warrior,

seemed to travel through time to grab

my attention this morning, carrying

a message that startled me, taking

my breath away.

 

Perhaps, today, I feel like a hollow

warrior, waking each morning to

continue a fight that only appears

to increase in difficulty, only to watch

many of us stoically struggle with

unearned distress, the very suffering

Buddha declared centuries ago to be

unavoidable.

 

Possibly, it was that this note knew

full well, years ago, that I had gotten

out on the despair side of the bed this

morning, wanting liberation from the

obvious struggles of life – reminding

me that although my passion may be

dented, it was not, and never would be,

extinguished, if I could find a way,

to be grateful.

 

Yes, this is counterintuitive, but, I guess,

so are most of the precepts of spiritual

enlightenment.

 

HOLLOW WARRIOR

Each step we take carries us through

time, a string of moments flash frozen

by a mind in pursuit of continuity,

a heart desperate to sort out the meaning

in the dust disturbed, it is precisely

this moment when we choose joy or

despair.

 

Even at its darkest, this life creation

we now inhabit, the muscles we empower

to move through it with tender strides,

to punch our way through the malaise

and grasp the significance of this journey,

allows even a hollow warrior to comprehend

its delicate purpose.

 

For us, who knows, even more, let us

sing an anthem of unwavering gratitude,

even as we wade through the suffering,

our hallelujahs washed with the ardent

tears of living, our passion dented but

never extinguished, as we declare:

all is well with our souls.

Both of these Affirmative Thoughts below

serve as a reminder that this enlightenment

we are seeking, does not need to be sought

in the external world, but rather is actually

self-possessed, described as “perfect

splendor resting beneath,” needing only

to be spiritually excavated.

 

This guidance appears to offer three steps.

Step one, is to be sure we are truly awake

and aware. Step two, prepare the way

through right thinking. The third step

is to reach out earnestly.

 

AWAKE AND AWARE

Let us wake to the full potential of our lives,

knowing we now have the ingredients

for complete, profound happiness and joy,

here and now, within our existing lives –

perfect splendor resting beneath

the sound and fury of our daily pursuits.

 

Let us first vow to live each day awake

and aware, by moving within the day,  

experiencing its flow, its rhythm, its

momentum, allowing ourselves to give

up forcing it to our wills, but rather

comprehending its true nature, listening

for its melody, seeking its harmony,

adjusting as warranted. 

 

Let us seek to observe rather than comment,

criticize, or command; seeing more deeply,

experiencing more profoundly, listening

more intently; refusing to be lost,

or untouched by the moment: knowing

each unfolding scene is a slice of life

requiring our complete involvement

and participation; our prize for staying

awake and aware.

THIS DAY

Let us approach this day

    with a clear mind and heart –

willing to prospect and mine

    each single mindful moment

    for the truths revealed; touching

with reverence every gem encountered.

 

Let us allow the flow of life

    to emerge clear and present –

to provide the motion and current

    needed to propel our forward

    motion, our potential progress,

our waiting destiny.

 

Let us not be impeded by fault

    or fiction or inner turmoil,

but instead approach this day

    ready to thrive, to soar,

    to become a clearer vision

of our truth personified,

to reach out earnestly for joy,

peace, love, and complete happiness.

Jubilation –noun -  a feeling of, or expression

of, joy or exultation; a joyful or festive celebration.

Origin; 1350 - 1400 from Middle English (jubila-cioun) –

a shouting for joy.

 

I have been away from my blog, focusing on my

family and the holidays, and as I write, I hope

everyone reading this post enjoyed their festivities.

The fun family activities took a macabre turn

with the news of the death of an older, extended

family member, a few days before the holiday.

 

Already tired of the disorderly transition of

family and friends, this one put a damper on

my usually upbeat celebration of Thanksgiving.

It was not until last night that my mood took a

positive turn, when our preschool grandson,

finished assisting with the putting up of  his

family’s Christmas Tree, providing me, and I

think all in attendance, with a lesson in tapping

our inner joy.

 

All through dinner our grandson beamed

with the flush of holiday spirit, making all

us promise a Christmas sing-along that he

would lead. So, when we finished eating,

we were each allowed to pick from a bag,

an instrument from his collection - be it

cymbal, triangle, bell, shaker, or block, all

percussive in nature, as he lined us up in

single file parade style, with the instruction

to listen for his countdown.

 

As the grandson boldly took the lead,

he announced that the first song selection

was Rudolph, then accented each step like

a majorette, with kids and adults alike

copying his high kick style, laughing,

singing, and playing their instruments as

we all marched, throughout the kitchen,

dining room and living room.

 

As the carols changed, and the band

members tired, our bandleader did his best

to keep us in line: but throughout, the joy

was palpable and contagious. Joy, unbridled

joy, created by a little boy who touched the

heart of living much deeper than I have been

doing this holiday season.

 

As a result, I woke this morning thinking

about how I, we, all of us, might recapture

our joy this holiday season; and after asking

for guidance came across this Affirmative

Thought below posted 6.21.2010 on the blog.

Let us not let current events steal our joy!

 

BEING JOYOUS

 

Today let us aim to live our lives in joy –

finding what is joyous in each moment –

in each situation we encounter; waking

in joy, going to sleep in joy - pure –

powerful joy.

 

Today let us realize that joy comes from

within us - a pure emotion of elation and

happiness flowing from our divine center –

flowing from our interpretation of life and

the world we are living in now.

 

Today let us understand that joy is always

available – always present – waiting for

us to clap our hands – stamp our feet –

and dance.

 

Let us dance to the joy of life!

If it is the truth that what we expect

will appear in our lives, why not set

the day with worthy intentions.

Why do we dismiss the note below as

unrealistic? Why are we conditioned

to expect the worst, or at least a

struggle? Why do we give away our

lives to our own negativity?

 

When I was deciding what to post

today, coming across this note

from 2012 titled Nothing But,  

my mind reacted as we are all

hardwired to do, thinking,

“it’s not possible because my day

is going to be a struggle, I’ll  be

lucky to do half of what I need

to do.” But then, a still small

voice chimed in, saying,

“why not.”

 

NOTHING BUT

 

Let us carry nothing into this day

    but joy – unbridled joy – refusing

to accept any other emotion – any

    other sentiment  - knowing this is

what we were created to experience –

    deserve to feel, are worthy of feeling.

 

Let us carry nothing into this day

    but peace – lasting and enduring

peace – the perfect peace our souls

    desire – knowing this is what we were

created to experience – deserve to feel,

    are worthy of feeling.

 

Let us carry nothing into this day

    but joy and peace adding to it a

full measure of love for life, ourselves,

    and others – an enduring love –

a compassionate love, full of kindness

    and the desire for the best for all.

 

Let us carry joy, peace, and love

    into this day knowing happiness

will not be far behind.
