In the Meditation Note below titled Step Into The

Stream, the concept of giving yourself over to God,

is addressed as a poetic total immersion

in the stream of life. Frankly, I get about waist-high

and swim for shore. I sometimes wonder what would 

happen if I went in all the way.

 

STEP INTO THE STREAM

Step into the stream of life – feel the crystal

water – cool – soothing - wash your feet and legs –

understand the pleasure of life – all that has occurred

to bring this stream to you – lush – full – abundant.

 

Step deeper and lose the control you have built up

to guide you – feel the water wash and splash over

and onto your arms and chest and shoulders –

breathe deeply and trust the full spirit of God.

 

Quell the fear that surfaces – breathe deeply

and trust the full spirit of God. Move deeper,

step by step, until your face and mouth are

within the stream – fear not, for God is with you –

is you. See the world through open eyes beneath

the surface – wonder at the beauty –the depth –

the crystal water.

 

Fully within the stream, now open your mouth

and suck the water into your mouth – nostrils –

and fill your lungs with the clear fluid and substance

of God. Understand you do not choke but swallow

the clear stream until you are living and breathing

the pure water.

 

Feel the energy, the thrill, and the joy of life’s stream.

Become the stream, let go, and float with its current –

move with its flow. Be alive in its water – submerged –

but living. This is the wonder of oneness with God.

Step into the stream of life and live renewed – reborn –

refreshed. Step into the stream

This morning, as I watched the birds

in my yard congregate, for what appeared

to be the final preparation for migration,

I thought how the Universe had so adroitly

designed them for their destiny, and the

faith they had already ingrained into

their consciousness, to spread their wings

full and soar.  I felt inspired to write the

poem below, to remind us that we too

have been prepared to soar robust.      

 

SOAR ROBUST

Like birds prepared for a winter flight

let us realize that we within contain all

that is, or will ever be, needed to guide

our journey onward -  the hazy path

is etched within our soul, the strength

for flight bred in the fiber of our being,

the destination framed by our clear

intention formed from constant dreaming.

 

So today we sit upon this stark limb

convinced our greater good awaits –

fit and full – confident of our intended

prognosis – with wings outstretched

we soar robust towards our waiting

distinction.

John Locke’s Essay Concerning Human

Understanding was published in 1690,

defining consciousness as “the perception

of what passes in a man’s own mind,”

establishing what would be the modern

concept of consciousness.  

 

Since Locke’s opening gambit, scientists,

philosophers, psychologists, and mystics

have studied and pondered “the perception,”

leaving us still no closer than Locke with a

comprehensive understanding of the origin

and full dimensions of human consciousness. 

 

Lately, I have been focused on consciousness -

praying and meditating, requesting additional

guidance and clarification, hoping to further

explore what is, at least for me, the backdrop

for our existence and the basis of God in

our lives.

 

I am especially interested in what the message

has defined as the levels of consciousness,

as I am planning to outline and share in

Part Four of the Finding God On The Train

Story – encompassing our “personal or

local consciousness,” which is incorporated

as a subset of the more comprehensive

“nonlocal collective consciousness” of all

sentient life, again a subset of  Divine

consciousness, comprising the first two

levels, as well as all life that has previously

existed.

 

My hope is to join the “consciousness

debate” by offering a more comprehensive

theory of consciousness based on my

guidance.  So, as demonstrated by the

meditation guidance below received one

morning last week, my request for

guidance on this subject is being

sporadically answered, and as received,

I will share.

 

VISTAS OF CONSCIOUSNESS

Below the surface of being exists,

the underpinnings, the threads, and needles,

the substructure connecting allness to all else,

the energies, the particles, the bits, and the

pieces of viable existence, the base, the screen

on which, with which, reality manifests

and performs.

 

This is the sub-matter behind the matter,

the first thought preceding all thoughtful

connection, the conscious framework

we choose to consider reality a projection

upon a projection within our conscious

projection.

 

Realize the force of nature is in itself

the collective vision of billions of diverse

perspectives, an ingrained, hardwired

foundation expected to be, expected

to follow laws set in motion by an active God.

 

Consider and contemplate this interaction,

this mingling, this natural blueprint,

the vistas of consciousness, peering within

its marvels, miraculous flashes of light,

dwelling intently and deeply until the

props and fixtures are revealed, allowing

an awareness of the strings supporting

and holding in place this dimension,

these slivers of being give our world

form and function, mobility and energy,

purpose and proposition, as it flickers

in the projector's light.

wellspring - an original and bountiful

source of something: the source of a

spring, stream, etc., the fountainhead.

 

originate – to bring into being;

to create something original;

invent; start.

 

originator -  (an entity, a being or), 

a person who creates or initiates

something.

 

WELLSPRING

Beyond the open threshold of our

anticipation – where hopes, and dreams,

and desires all collide into semantics,

where one overwhelming urge propels

us forward, to connect and be connected

with the originator, to understand

why or why not.

 

When we reach out to the wellspring 

of  our existence, to experience the

fullness: the limitlessness that is our

very  birthright, do we ever truly grasp

and comprehend that the boundaries,

the conditions, the restrictions

are comprised of our own false

perceptions.

 

If we, within our prayers and our

contemplations might profoundly

accept the flow of good is without

bounds; no parceling out, no allotment,

just an endless supply of health, wealth,

success, prosperity, happiness, love and

so much more: we might reconfigure

our approach to living, being, and existing.

However, we envision the originator,

of our existence -  a consciousness,

a force, a spirit, a holy ghost, a being

sitting on a large throne; we need

to fully comprehend that this entity

acts as a spiritual “wellspring,”

a source of our abundance and good.

 

The note above, in this regard, reminds

us that our personal interpretation

of God is, at the onset, flawed by our

limited and restricted conceptual

abilities: and instead, we need to

accept the possibility that there

is only an endless supply, with our

faith serving as the faucet.

 

Today,  let us all heed this advice,

reaching out to our wellspring through

our prayers and contemplations,

with no negative thoughts allowed,

only a sustained, ongoing positive

vestige of openly armed belief, connected,

attached, ready to reconfigure our

approach to living, being, existing.

The central focus of Finding God On The

Train Story - the blog and the book - centers

on the quest for a positive, personal, and

contemplative  spirituality.

This is not a collective pursuit in search

of a unified process, creed, or dogma –

no cookie-cutter, one size fits all that we

might handily share as a sort of spiritual

panacea for collective belief; instead, it is

a reminder of the benefits of  “individuation” - 

applying a Jungian term to the pursuit of

mystical enlightenment, by the individual,

for the ultimate benefit of that individual.

 

Although we each may share our

experiences with blogs and books, most of

what you and I will encounter will be

unique to our own life experience.  

 

As the note below conveys, this quest

surely requires times when we must

pause, catch our breath, and listen:

allowing inspiration to direct our

forward progress; letting the universal

currents maneuver us into the proper

channels; readying us for continued

evolvement.

 

Yes, what we appear to be about is the

evolution of our personal spirituality.

Not the forming of a new biological

component - a better brain or backbone,

but instead an evolution of the individual

and the collective consciousness. One

that will enable us to answer our personal

connection with our divine perspective,

but at the same time, quite possibly,

if accomplished in reasonable numbers,

jump-start the somewhat stalled in an

endless loop of perpetual mayhem - the

evolution of humankind.

 

PROSPECT OF CONTINUED PROGRESS

At times, we must stand still and catch

our breath, to survey and inspect even

the familiar terrain, our mind in check,

our heart open and hopeful, all longing

abated, nourished only by the prospect

of continued progress.

 

In this hush, our mind wakes, our eyes

diverted, almost magically, only to transfix

on an anonymous path, nondescript

but vaguely appealing, overgrown and

underutilized: and just perhaps; without

direction, we realize our feet are gently

treading on its indentations.

 

So today, let us be awake and open

to the path, or paths, worthy of sincere

consideration, allowing our evolving

desires to try each on for size and

ease of living, knowing in this timely

observation, we may genuinely open our-

selves up to our authentic calling.

Life itself is a cycle of becoming, then being,

then shedding what must be let go to make

the way for what may be waiting on the path ahead.

This cycle exists within each sentient entity

and, I believe, is the very fabric of nature

from the minute to the magnificent – this cyclic

force propels us forward to greater growth and

potentials.

 

The other day, I had just finished meditating,

and looking up at the grand old tree that

shares my existence near our back deck,

I thought, what might this wonderful tree,

having witnessed more years than I,

convey as its wisdom. The poem below,

This Shedding Time was the response.   

 

THIS SHEDDING TIME

Only a heavy wind might shake these

withering leaves from tired limbs,

allowing once again a winter’s restoration,

regeneration, as October skies remind

of chills to come, as thoughts of spring

remind of the prize – new life rebounding -

so alien in this shedding time, yet even so,

is not this destiny to revive, to shake

full-leaved beneath a brighter sky.

It is during these shedding times that

I feel reluctantly compelled to reflect

on the journey of my existence to date,

contemplating  my staggering, often fitful

progress. As I do, I realize that I come

to these moments of reflection, aware 

that something within my essential nature,

all human nature, perhaps all nature itself

moves us beyond our temperamental strivings,

forcefully forward toward what is often

our progressive but bruised becoming,

as the poem below so graphically contends.   

 

FORCEFULLY FORWARD  

We arrive at this moment transfixed

on this occasion when destiny, desire,

and hapless luck again intertwine

to convey to us chaotically, forcefully

forward towards potentials no more firmly

established than the prevailing winds

of past precedence, with scars inflicted,

hopes dashed, sincerities questioned –

again to bob and weave with a bloody face

and blurred vision until our weighted

arms surrender to the temptations

of uncertain repose as our hearts scream

finished, our Souls refuse to waiver,

grasping for a piercing breath, then

another, until our pounding chest subsides,

arms awaken freshly invigorated as

body motion thrusts our fists of hope

with solid aspiration.

The past few weeks have been a blur,

literally, as we took turns as the patient,

first Ann, then me – were forced to realize

that flu vaccinations do not necessarily

mean you will not get the flu, although,

most likely, not the one you are protected

to resist, but instead, some genetically

unplanned for next of kin that has gone

under the radar.  

 

Although on the positive side, this medical

hiatus has proven supportive of spiritual

pursuits, especially prayer and meditation.

Given the extra time, attempting more

intensive meditation seemed to be a viable

option.

 

When I decide to, as I call it, go deeper,

I always prepare the way with prayer,

explaining what I am about to do and what

I want to accomplish. I ask for God’s assistance,

especially when dealing with the occasional

negative thoughts, images, memories, or

whatever might be unleashed.

 

When I did, I received the note below titled

Dive Deep– an example of what over the

past ten years of my quest, I have recorded

as inspired guidance and have termed

as Notes On Enlightenment (N.O.E.’s) -

to reflect that these are responses I receive

when I ask for God’s guidance. I consider them

inspired because I write down or transcribe,

what comes to me, word for word, without

editing. As the note below explains, most

mystics have conveyed, deep diving offers

its own spiritual treasure.

 

I close this post with a poem/prayer

titled, The Hum.

 

DIVE DEEP

In the vastness exists all things, all that was,

all that is, all that will ever be: allow it to flow

unchecked, go with its currents and tides,

allow the waves of awareness to wash over

you and through you; observe without judgment,

for in this place, qualifications, expectations,

judgments are needless, wasted energy –

observe and move on when unappealing or

distressing, languish if desired, dive deeper

if desired, for this is the basis of life itself in all

its vagaries, vicissitudes, the essence of passions,

of desires, of strivings, of successes, and of course,

of failures – hopeless or needless blunders – yet

more important – the reachings, the yearnings,

the outstretched hope for more: what lies ahead,

the next step, the possibility if only, if only all

things are aligned – and when they do or are –

the expression of unbridled joy – the hallelujah

of existence. Dive deep, dive often, and be

transformed.

THE HUM

In your grasp, I am one,

    flesh made whole,

12 Everlasting Light 

(Music For The Magical Moment By Ryan Farish)

 

For all who do not have a clear fall season,

where leaves on trees burst out in flames of

yellows - reds - browns mixed softly,

but distinctly, I invite you to imagine gleefully

twisting beneath a dry rain of color, then

joyfully diving into a pile of autumn hues,

laughing and shrieking with buoyant delight.  

 

OUR MAGICAL MOMENT 

Let us enjoy the splendor and passion

of a fall day in vibrant color, transforming

from the warmth of summer into the

chill full rest of winter – preparing us to

harvest this final explosion of purpose,

this closing display of all that exists

within us, waiting to be revealed.

 

Let us enjoy the perfect cycle of coming,

becoming and going within us – the seasons

of our hearts and Souls growing at first

with a single step, then a few more,

until we run with life in all its purpose,

only to slow again in fitting time to our

waiting full restful stride.

 

Let us enjoy this living – this season

which is enveloping us in its lavish

bounty, within us – let us dance beneath

the falling leaves – alive with the joy

of knowing this is our magical moment –

our cherished memory is unfolding.

PIECES OF GOD 

Everywhere I go

there are little pieces of God,

by gathering them together,

perhaps I will see

the whole picture,

or at least,

like a puzzle partially

completed,

a rough outline will appear,

and I, with a little patience,

can imagine the rest.

In my opinion, a key to a viable spiritual

quest requires the tenacity to find our 

unique perspective of God, which, in

the end may sync with a traditional concept,

or be something altogether distinctly

different, as indicated by the note below

titled, The Origin.

 

This Meditation Note is the answer to

my direct question, during meditation,

regarding the origin of God. Now, this

response may be impacted by an idea

I have been considering, or better put,

fixating on lately  – what if God-conscious-

ness was not the originator of all existence,

but evolved out of the very consciousness

of all existence - formed out of evolving life

itself. What if God is, basically, all existing

consciousness - plus, all awareness - plus,

everything awake - plus.  

 

THE ORIGIN 

I want to say - look beyond the horizons and

into the life, breath, and pulse of humankind.

Here, within exists the beat of a living God,

the anointed desires of all existence made

manifest by a single intention: this sliver

of purpose formed from a consciousness

combined to be something more than

the sum of its parts, a primal force realizing

random existents would not transmit a

greater destiny than mere being.

Here is the transcendence into an organized

being a conscious entity formed and fed

from the totality of each thought, sense,

feeling, aliveness, and, in turn, growing its

beingness, reaching out to foster well-

being of all nature, striving to navigate

the parts towards a more viable, pertinent,

and self-sustaining existence.

Here is the origin of everything awake.
