The mystics of the Common Era, whether
Jewish, Muslim, or Christian, in their
desire to forge a relationship with God,
have suffered greatly, some at the hands
of the ruling theology, others by the ruling
party, and sadly, a significant number,
many Christian, through their own acts of
self-mortification.
Yet, as the note below suggests, possibly
this self-focus, the need to fix or improve
or even suffer our self into sacred shape,
is in and of itself, really just self-focused:
clearly missing the point. If so, seeing
beyond our self and into the distinction
less, Divinely based, self that holds the
spark would be a more fruitful approach.
WORTHY OF THE MISSION
The sounds within reverberate a truth –
a proverb of sorts – possibly a reminder
to the initiated – surely an essential
clarification for those who have recently
taken to the path, simply: although
we search for our authentic self – it is
but a preparation for what waits beyond.
Our goal, in this, is to see beyond our self –
this self, authentic or not, that we hold
in such esteem; even so, we often focus
and fret over its traits or passions that
miss the mark, setting out to sand,
trim, pound, or suffer into shape –
one worthy of the mission.
Yet, what if we are to see and be
the distinction less self, the generic
self, the commonality of human “being,”
unmasked of pretense, false uniqueness,
reacting to see and perceive the self that
holds the spark, that cradles the divinity
itself – our God, their God – the God
that lovingly waits.
