I came across this poem below, not having
read these words since I recorded them
in my journal during a Monday morning
meditation in November 2014.
As I reviewed the poem, I felt a sense
of longing, realizing this lone desire,
depending on the reader may reflect
any of the plethora of longings we
human beings may experience in
the course of this existence.
A good poem, I believe, like a mirror,
should endeavor to engage the reader,
to reflect the sensibilities of whomever
holds it in their consciousness at the time.
If this is the case, let us reflect on our
lone desire, or desires, realizing they
may not all be expressible in our current
life, but if they are, or could be, perhaps
we would do well to let them live.
LONE DESIRE
Far within the mist exists
a lone desire,
fragrant and ripe
with opportunity,
twisting to the stirrings
of a life lived secondhand,
beneath a veil,
sheer but opaque,
cautious enough
to avoid detection
in times of tangled
existence – yet still
strongly alive, waiting,
perhaps for a time
when shadows no
longer pose a threat,
dissolving instead into
a clearer perspective
of who we are,
who we will be,
who we were all along.
