I wonder, at times, if I am in the spiritual

scrap business. Unfurling scraps of insight

I have picked up from my daily collection.

Maybe my blog is actually a scrapbook

of sorts where I arrange my tattered

insights into conceptual frameworks

to share with those who, like me, are also

in the spiritual scrap business.    

  

SCRAPS OF INSIGHT

We the seekers who wish to understand,

who strive to unfurl the mystery of being –

Divine being - who wander the fields

of consciousness collecting scraps of meaning,

ordering and reordering in our attempts

to recognize the premise, the purpose,

the essential essence.

 

We proceed with faith, with hope,

glimpsing at times the outline, straining

to perceive the content; in quiet desperation

we arrange our tattered insights into concepts,

precepts, dogmas, even religions – unsure

of our path, yet so certain of our mission.

I would like to offer you the Affirmative Thought

below, which focuses on the unique nature

of  human life - your, life, my life, all life we have

the pleasure of encountering.

 

It is often hard for our egos to honor and respect

the vast diversity of human existence, we are 

uncomfortable when faced with someone

who cannot or will not be easily labeled 

and categorized.

 

As soon as we label someone, we have made

an assumption about who they are and,

consequently, how we expect them to behave -

forever losing sight of their true authentic

identity. 

 

We then find ourselves confused when they 

act out of their assumed character or nature -

so sure we knew exactly how they would react

based on our clouded logic. This can be most

painful when dealing with assumptions

we constantly make about ourselves.

 

I would suggest we avoid our labels, false

assumptions, and gross generalizations.

Instead, let us enjoy the uniqueness,

the differences, and the eccentricities

of each magnificent creation, we encounter. 

                             

UNIQUENESS 

Today, let us honor and respect the uniqueness

of each human life - understanding we are 

encountering the infinite faces of God - 

defying our labels, our categories, our

attempts to generalize and soothe our

ego's need to assume.

 

Today, let us honor and respect the variation

of each human response - alive within an

emotional spectrum from bliss through

despair - feelings so profound and earnest

they color each interaction, communication,

and breath taken - truly indefinable -

leaving even the poet's description missing 

the mark.

 

Today let us honor and respect our individual

contribution to this magnificent creation 

we know as life - refining our differences -  

highlighting our eccentricity - for all the

universe to enjoy.

SOULFUL INSPIRATION 

All we need to chart our course

we possess within, our spark of

Soulful inspiration, a whispered

suggestion in moments of confusion,

a hunch appearing  just when needed,

words of reassurance in the darkness.

Perhaps the confirmation of God's love

is not out there, but clearly exists as

the still small voice that prompts us

on when we are unsure of the next step,

the feeling of confidence washing

over us when we question our ability.

No mighty works, just loving guidance,

a caring hand to grasp when ours is

trembling, the thought of more when

less is so apparent, a strong shoulder

to stable us, or cry on, a reason to

believe life is worth living.
