For a child will be born to us,
A son will be given to us;
And the government will rest on
His shoulders;
And His name will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.
Isaiah 9:6
As the Western Christian world steps into
the Easter season, I find myself focused
on the true power and essence of peace.
Yesterday, the first note I received in
this Easter season, shared below, titled
Peaceful Ember, reflects this focus.
The note, reminded me of the Isaiah
quote above, prophesying the coming
of the Prince of Peace. I thought of Jesus –
the man, the rabbi, the mystic, the prophet,
the messiah, the carpenter, the brother,
the son, the friend, the human being,
perhaps even the son of God, and I was
struck by the weight of all these descriptive
labels, burdensome, tying him down,
tying us down, keeping us, perhaps, from
understanding his essential message.
I realize finding peace in our modern
world seems to be an impossible challenge,
especially since established religions have
chosen to fight over the right to the proper
approach to God. Of all the things Jesus
might have been, he was not a false prophet,
he showed us what we needed to do to evolve,
to grow, to connect with our own Divinity,
to find love, and most of all, the essential
nature of peace.
If our souls are truly nourished by peace,
this Easter season, let us hold the
peaceful ember in our hearts and ignite
our world with peace.
PEACEFUL EMBER
Let us cultivate a perspective of peace,
incubating the initial intention, thought,
or imagining in the warmth of peace,
knowing even a spark from a solitary
peaceful ember will ignite the full fire
of possibility.
Turning quickly away from confusion
or conflict, dispute or distress, allowing
each breath to assume a peaceful cadence,
as our thoughts and actions follow suit,
delivering us from the static of our often
hectic existence, to the tranquil, the serene,
the placid.
It is in this place of peace our souls
are nourished, our bodies refreshed,
our regrets and misgivings washed away,
as we find firm ground for our forward
progress – clear sailing for our becoming,
a fresh canvas for our creation.
