I wrote this poem below over eleven years ago

but it was not until this morning that I felt

compelled to post it. I do not recall what 

was happening at the time, but I understand

its message and feel that it is is also meant

for me, here and now, today. Have I, in all this 

hubbub of living, rejoicing, and suffering,

forgotten the central theme, the simple truth 

of the message I convey - that you, me, we

are not alone. 

  

SPARK OF GOD

Even as the future lies in wait – not yet

fully revealed and opened to speculation,

as we hold firm to our belief,  as seconds

turn to days and hours eternities, with

our hopeful prayers disrupted by our

fears of suffering and loss, desperately

seeking to transcend this or perhaps,

better yet, escape this plight altogether –

knowing this is the time we earnestly

need to reach within for the spark of

the Divine, we have nourished and

sheltered – fostered and protected

for just this salient disturbance –

and in this tempest, let us know

our God truly resides within, with us,

to grasp our trembling hands, soothe

our Souls, and provide a place of peace

and perspective – hope and dignity –

true and lasting transcendence.

One day, someday, possibly today;

with clear fresh eyes, soul-centered

sight, the true immortal spirit within

us takes over our vision – darkness

lifts; humankind has evolved;

heaven on earth is revealed. 

 

WITH CLEAR FRESH EYES

Let us see with clear eyes today,

unobstructed by confused

interpretation, or distraught due

to misguided conditioning; rather,

sever our sights from our less than

positive thoughts and reactions,

enabling us to see the wonder,

the magic, the magnificence.

 

Today, allow us to see the Divine

in every smile,  the good in our

every effort, the purpose even in

the most tedious or mundane action,

the love in every interaction or

human contact.

 

In truth, let our fresh eyes see

the full possibility of human nature

evolved, conscious and awake,

the darkness lifted, the sky pristine,

our hoped-for future possible:

abounding with joy, peace, love,

and happiness; our destination –

heaven on earth.

Being alive and human is, at times, a struggle,

yet we are made from tough stock - the dust

of stars, the dreams of cosmic life, the infinite

striving of cells too small to see, an all-

encompassing infinite soul.

 

The note below reminds us of this innate

resilience - our ability for regeneration -

yet it does provide some sage advice:

the merits of constructive change when

possible.  

 

WITH WOUNDS HEALED

Resilience - our ability to rebound, spring

back, regain our equilibrium, is at the center

of human nature; our elasticity, enabling us

to withstand direct impact and recover,

stronger from the ordeal.

 

It is this capacity for regeneration, actual

reformation, with wounds, healed, and

traumas abated, that sharpens our instincts,

hones our skills, and toughens our psyches

going forward.

 

Even so, it is in our best interest to seek

a more peaceful livelihood, one conducive

to positive pursuits, where empowerment,

growth and personal development are prescribed

daily; where smiles appear sincere, thriving

commonplace, flourishing expected!
