prevail – prove more powerful than

opposing forces; be victorious.

 

Determination, I believe, is the creative force

of our human existence: the ability to prevail,

to prove more powerful than the opposing forces –

be they fate, nature, lethargy, inner self-doubt,

fear, the opposition of others – well meaning or

just plain malicious.

 

I don’t really believe in, or give much credence to,

purposeful supernatural negative forces, such as

a devil, but I do believe in counter forces, that

every action, positive or negative, is often met

with an opposing action, as life itself resists

change and adaptation.

 

We, humankind, are the rare natural agents

for change and creation within current existence,

other than entropy, which is built into the natural

system.

 

So, how do we prevail? The note below suggests

it is with persistence, with our sights fixed on the

goal - this goal fully imagined and shaped in our

thinking, then held in thought with belief until it,

through our efforts or otherwise, attracts and

creates and forms its likeness.  

  

PERSISTENCE WILL PREVAIL

 

The waves of life at times may pound us,

disrupting our forward progress, thwarting

our planned momentum, yet if we persist

to venture onward with our sights fixed on

the goal – refusing to give up or give in –

persistence will prevail.

 

A thought held firm and not relinquished,

will outlast even a steady torrent of ill

fortune: if believed and held as truth

in prayer – so let us tend and grow

our strong intentions - sure in our

convictions.

 

All that is sure and worthy – our hopes,

dreams and pursuits may find their

form in our imaginings, shaped in our

thinking - held true in our believing,

attracted by our creating – until even

the winds of outrageous fortune fail

to impede our steady endeavors.

I offer this note in honor of all who face some 

affliction or adversity today, and might be helped 

in someway to know that God has prepared us all 

for whatever struggle may lie ahead. Know that you

are not alone. 

 

I offer this note in honor of all those who wake 

in a hospital bed, a cancer treatment center, sit

facing a dialysis machine, struggling with a rehab

program, or a daunting medical procedure of any

type - along with all those who love them sitting in

waiting rooms with hands clinched in prayer

pleading for deliverance. Know that you are not

alone. 

 

I offer this note in honor of all those facing abuse,

or intolerance, or hunger  - know that the force

of  God is the life within - the champion within you -

willing to fight with you for your right to continue

living. Know too that you are not alone. 

 

May this humble note offer a word of hope.

 

THIS CHAMPION WITHIN

 

The keys to strength are deep within,

ready to turn in times of your greatest

need, when providence or circumstance

or happenstance require courage in the

face of adversity – simply reach inside

and find your inner champion.

 

Know today you are ready to face what

comes, always able to summon this

champion within, victor of a thousand

noble causes both seen and unforeseen -

who is ready and fully prepared to protect

you still.

 

Today proceed in clear confidence of the

metal forged within, knowing you are

able to summon your noble powers when

needed at a moments notice – to offer

a clear and effective response to any

threat or cause, victorious.

Having watched too much college and professional

basketball,  I was fascinated and focused this

year on the phrase  - "in transition" - used by

the coaches and commentators to describe

the process of traveling full court to shift

from defense to offense, or vice versa, where 

the team has to move to their own or the

opposing team's basket.  Much of the game, 

and many of the exciting fast break plays 

originate in this place of transition.

 

In reality, many of us may exist in our own

professional,  personal, and/or spiritual lives

"in transition," where what worked in the past 

may now seem somewhat dull and lack-luster,

leaving us to wake each morning wishing we

could alter in some way this life we now lead, 

even if we are not quite sure how. It is often 

challenging to approach these days with

enthusiasm and a sense of purpose.  

 

Finding myself at such a crossroads, I find

that this note below offers a piece of very 

sound advice - "stay on purpose," especially

when in a time of transition. 

 

IN TRANSITION 

Today stay on purpose, refusing

to be knocked off course by doubt,

self-questioning, or confusion –

reaching within instead to reconnect

with your inner values and sense

of mission.

 

Today stay on purpose, even if you

wonder whether this is the right

course, realizing that only through

right action will you be able to

discover the viable alternative

or the shift needed to find your

realignment going forward.

 

Today stay on purpose, knowing

within the contrast or friction

a spark of creative genius may

erupt and ignite your imagination,

lighting the way to a fuller perspective

where passion and enthusiasm

can once again take center stage.
