This morning, while meditating and attempting
to focus my mind, which was fixated on all the
projects and efforts I have yet to complete or
finish, I began to shuffle through the images
and impressions of the year, and a question
captured my attention; simply put the question
asked:
Have you grown this year?
My first response was a bit snarky, “oh yeah,
I have grown older and much slower,” as
I prepared to brush it off as an annoying
interruption. Again, the question was restated:
Have you grown this year?
After a few more of these iterations, the guidance
kicked in to make its case.
Have you grown spiritually? Have you made
progress on your quest - gained insight?
Have you grown emotionally? Are you more
compassionate, kind - caring; are you more
patient; are you more loving; more empathetic,
encouraging – are you moving towards
“the being” you know is needed for the evolution
of all existence.
The guidance also suggested that I leave behind
what is not working for me, like a pile of dirty
clothes, and encouraged choosing to move into
the new year fresh, open, ready to continue
the expansion of my spiritual self.
During my business career I was faced with
an annual self-assessment, to be completed and
reviewed with my manager during my performance
evaluation. This was taken very seriously, so it
required a great deal of objective thinking.
Yet, this is not a self-assessment, but better
expressed as a connection with God-assessment.
Have I moved closer to God this year, has my
relationship with God improved, or have I allowed
the strains and obstacles of life to inhibit my growth?
The answer is not as important as the recommitment
to life as a spiritual being, a refocusing of what is
of worth and value in our lives: our faith and the
knowledge that we are, without a doubt, never alone.
WITH LOVE, G.
