The other night Ann and I were discussing how our spiritual
orientations had changed over the past few years. Ann revealed
that although enhanced by her New Thought focus, she still felt
very much a Baptist at heart and most connected with the music,
preaching, and sense of community the Baptist Church had to
offer. Then Ann asked if I would attend Baptist services with
her and she would attend Unity services with me.
My first reaction was negative and I said I didn’t agree with the
Baptist approach and would rather not. After sleeping on it I
awoke and chastised myself for my intolerance and inflexibility.
Wasn’t the central theme of my work that all paths lead to God
and no path was more appropriate or more sacred than another.
Wasn’t the original point of New Thought to work as a spiritual
enhancer not as a replacement, and certainly not the only
religious option. I meditated, wrote the note below for Ann, and
woke her up and said that I would be glad to share in her religious
undertaking if she would participate in mine. She smiled and
thanked me.
As a reader of my blog I want to be sure that it is clear, although
I have a New Thought orientation, I am in no way saying that
anyone should give up their path and follow mine. What I am
encouraging is setting up a personal relationship with God, or
intensifying the one you have now, in order to enhance your
current spiritual approach. As Larry David so aptly stated,
just because I love lobster does not mean everyone must eat
lobster.
Personal Path To God
Today let us choose our own personal path
to God knowing all ways lead to the same
destination – knowing all vehicles have
been inspired to take us where we are going,
where we desire to go, to the heart and
essence of divine love.
Today let us be accepting and tolerant of all
religious and spiritual pursuits selecting the
one that sings to our heart and answers
our needs without requiring others to do
the same – knowing God has no walls,
no ways, no dogma, no doctrine - only
the full light of love.
Today let us move on our chosen path
with a desire to connect personally and
become one with God – growing,
evolving, and becoming divine.
